Years 5 & 6 Autumn Term
What a bustling start we have had to Autumn term. Our new Head Boy and Head Girl along with School Council members have been voted in and are wearing their badges with pride.
Two new librarians have been appointed and next half term will see the opening of our library one night after school where families will be welcomed to view our constantly evolving library and share our books.
In the classroom, we have been working in earnest to develop our maths and reading fluency. We have signed Home/School agreements, which pledge that we will read every night, complete our homework and attend school punctually. We have been learning about Earth and Space and the theories of both Nicolaus Copernicus and Ptolemy. Mrs. Robson has joined our school family and is helping us develop our French, Design Technology and P.E skills. We have paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 by writing poems about her. We understand the importance of charity work both in our local community and in the wider world. This week, we have launched our shoebox appeal for families in Ukraine and other eastern European countries.
This half term has also seen the start of some new after- school clubs. Mrs. Hoffman has begun a cookery club where children have been making pasta, pizza and soup. We are beginning to understand about seasonality and where our food comes from. There are also two art clubs and a multi- sports club we can attend.

Week three saw us on our residential adventure to Carlton Adventure Centre. We took part in a variety of activities including weaselling at Scugdale rocks, climbing the High Challenge and practising our archery skills. Going on a residential visit so early in the academic year is vital for team- building and leadership skills as well as developing a whole class camaraderie. We are so proud of everyone who faced personal fears and encouraged others to do the same. Watch this space for information about next year’s plans…
Some of us have been to local cross-country and tag rugby events where we may not have won but where we showed true grit and determination and represented our school with pride.

To enhance our History work on World War Two, this week we visited Eden Camp, Malton. Here we were able to experience the sights and smells of London during The Blitz, learn more about evacuation and gain an insight into what life was like a a prisoner of war.
